Changing Print Cartridges : ZPrinter 450

1)      Details the proper steps to remove and replace the Printing Cartridge(s) for the ZPrinter450. The ZPrinter Controller Interface utilizes a Digital Readout and a Scroll Knob that acts as a Scroll Wheel and Selection Button. Scroll to your selections with the wheel, and depress the wheel to select an option. The Printer has two primary areas, the ‘PRINT AREA’ on the left of the Equipment, and the ‘DUST AREA’ on the right.

i)        Initialization

(1)    Scroll-to and Select ‘PRINT HEADS’ from the ZPrinter 450 Interface

(2)    Within the submenu categories, Scroll-to and Select ‘CHANGE PRINT HEADS’

(a)    Once selected, the Print Gantry will travel towards the front of the machine. This is a designated position specifically for changing the Print Heads. The Print Head Carriage is Black, and has two connections. One black tube, and one thin wire strip run into the Carriage.

(3)    Open the Equipment Door

ii)      The Digital Readout reads, “Remove Heads and Clean Under Carriage”

(1)    “Remove Heads”

(a)    Open the Print Head Carriage by pushing down on the top, and sliding the ‘lock-tab’ towards the back of the machine. This is not a ‘strength’ imposing process; very slight pressure should accomplish the task.

(b)   Remove the Print Head(s)

(2)    “Clean Under Carriage”

(a)    Located on the lower-left, underneath of the Print Carriage, there is a ‘Sensor Window’. This is a depth detection method the printer uses to ensure proper printing. You cannot see it, but you can feel it. It is a tiny glass window, and once wiped clean, it is very smooth in comparison to the rest of the under-carriage. Use a paper towel or rag.  You will most likely get ‘ink’ on your hands. DO NOT USE WATER or ANY OTHER CLEANING PRODUCTS!

iii)    Finalization

(1)    “Insert New Heads and Press Continue”

(a)    Insert your new cartridge(s) after opening and removing any product packaging. Close the Carriage Lid, and Close the Equipment Door. ‘HP11’ is the smaller of the two cartridges, ‘HP57’ is the larger cartridge. ‘HP11’ is a Black Ink Cartridge that will be purged, and re-filled with Binder Solution. ‘HP57’ is for Color Printing. Both Cartridges should be available/located in the ZPrinter 450 Toolkit.

(2)    “Reading Head Info Please Wait”

(a)    The Printer will now update the Print Head Status for both Print Heads.

(3)    “Head Status Updated”

(a)    This means you have successfully removed and replaced the Print Head(s). Press the ‘EXIT’ Button, and ensure the Equipment Door is Closed.

(4)    Purging

(a)    Purging is necessary for all ‘HP11’ Cartridges. If you do not ‘purge’ a new cartridge; then the equipment will automatically do it before the next print.

(5)    Head Alignment

(a)    Head Alignment is necessary for all Color ‘HP57’ Cartridges. If you do not perform the ‘Head Alignment’ Procedure, the printer will automatically call this process before the next print.

(b)   Head Alignment in not necessary for MONOCHROME (White) Prints.
