Project 2 – Slotted Furniture

OBJECTIVE:

Project 2 requires all students to 3d model several furniture components that utilize ‘slotting’ techniques and methods as a means of fastening. After which, student must prepare 2.5 Axis toolpaths within the RhinoCAM Plugin interface for eventual completion/milling on the CNC Router. 2.5 Axis Toolpaths include : Drilling, Profiling, Engraving, and Pocketing. ANY Material selection is acceptable, however, MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is recommended. All components must slot together via male and female joinery; without the use of add’l fasteners.

 

CRITERIA:

Project must be ‘furniture’, providing a function: Shelves, Chairs, Lamps etc.

Project must utilize at least two 2 Axis/2.5 Axis Toolpaths: Profiling, Engraving, Pocketing and/or Drilling

Project must be prepared with RhinoCAM.

Project may NOT utilize additional fasteners.

Project must utilize ‘slotting’ techniques discussed during class.

Project must be properly documented and submitted in Course Folder.

 

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Slotting requires precise measurements. Consider using Calipers to find out the Thickness of your material.

MDF stock is available in 0.72″  and 0.47″ Thicknesses.

SUBMISSION:

[via dfab server] Access ‘My Computer/dFAB Resources – Learning/Courses/digiTOOL/2_porousENTITY/5_SUBMIT’

1. Create a folder with your Andrew ID as the title

2. Submit your Rhino [.3dm] File.

3. Once completed, submit 5 semi-professional photographs of your work. (MONOCHROME BACKGROUNDS ONLY!)
