Re-Calibrating ‘Z0’ : CNC Router

1)      Details the proper steps to Re-Calibrate the correct table height for the CNC Router. This is essential for correct utilization of this equipment, and must be done every time the spoilboard/table is resurfaced.

 

i)        Pick up Tool#2

(1)    Use the .5” Flat Foam Only Bit. Typically loaded in the Tool # 2 Position. Pick the bit up by typing into the command prompt within the WinCNC Interface. To pick up bits, type the letter ‘T’, followed by the corresponding number tool you are looking for. i.e. ‘T2’picks up tool number two.

 

ii)      Measure the Tool

(1)    WinCNC has multiple command buttons located in the program interface. Find and select the button labeled: ‘Measure 1 Table Tool’

 

iii)    Turn the Vacuum Table ‘ON’

(1)    WinCNC has multiple command buttons located in the program interface. Find and select the button labeled: ‘Vac Full’

 

iv)    Jog the bit (to the Table)

(1)    Type X24 into the command prompt and press ‘Enter’

(2)    Type Y48 into the command prompt and press ‘Enter’

(3)    Type ‘Z0’ into the WinCNC Command Prompt. The bit will jog downwards toward the table.

 

v)      Turn Soft Limits ‘OFF’

(1)    Within the WinCNC interface, there is a button towards the top of the screen. This button is a cross with arrows pointing in X and Y directions. If we scroll over this button it will prompt a label window that indicates ‘Soft Limits’. Press this button so it is turned off.

(2)    IMPORTANT* Once Soft Limits are turned off, the CNC Router can Jog in ANY DIRECTION past its Zero Point. Therefore, X and Y motions will slam into the sides; and the Z motion can jog into the table. DO NOT JOG THE BIT IN ANY DIRECTION UNLESS INDICATED!

 

vi)    Turn Incremental step to {.01”}

(1)    Above the button library there is a button titled ‘.01” ‘- push this button and it will allow the cnc router to move at .01” increments at a time.

 

vii)  Jog the bit into the table

(1)    Press the ‘Page Down’ button on your keyboard two (2) times. This will Jog the bit to Z-.02”

(2)    Alternately, you can type into the command prompt: Z-.02

 

viii)   Calibrate

(1)    WinCNC has multiple command buttons located in the program interface. Find and select the button labeled: ‘Calibrate Switch’

(2)    Push ‘Enter’ after selecting this button.

 

ix)    Turn Soft Limits back on***

(1)    Within the WinCNC interface, there is a button towards the top of the screen. This button is a cross with arrows pointing in X and Y directions. If we scroll over this button it will prompt a label window that indicates ‘Soft Limits’. Press this button so it is turned on.

 

x)      You have successfully recalibrated the Table Height.
